Visiting Cozumel: A speedy and refreshing Adventure

Sometimes, you just have to go for it!

Fun Fact: I am randomly crazy... and by that I simply mean, sometimes, I'm so interested and passionate in getting the experience that I don't stop to think it through. lol. And that's okay, it only makes the adventure and the stories you get to tell that much more exciting.

During this Caribbean cruise, the last port was to Cozumel, Mexico, an area well-known for scuba diving. However, we did not go scuba diving at all, of course my friends and I had to be very different. Like any other port, we did an island tour, except this time.... We gave ourselves the island tour. That's right, we rented a jeep from the cruise tourist area and traveled the island for ourselves. It sounds nice, doesn't it?...

Yeah, well, we didn't completely think it through! The area we rented the jeep from had a few assistants who were passing out maps and explaining to us that there was only one road we were to travel to ensure we returned back to the tourist area. We listened, received the keys, took the top off and rode into the wind. It was nice at the beginning; luckily for me I knew enough of the Spanish language to get us around the island due to the fact, the map was in Spanish, and in Cozumel, that is their primary language and not many people have learned another language.

Certain parts of the island along the road there were signs up to stay out, so it's safe to say, we knew not to detour onto those roads. But, on the other hand, they did have many entrances to the beach where we were able to stop and enjoy the beautiful blue water. Once we were headed back into town, the jeep ran hot and shut off at a traffic light, it then began to continuously shut off multiple times on our way back. We were able to make it back to the tourist area, but it wasn't the greatest experience having to go through that, especially in hot weather and in an area where there was a language barrier for us.

Once we were in the tourist area, we walked around and ended up stopping to get something to drink because the sun was really beaming down on us, then of course we ended up getting food which was an authentic Mexican taco. We also went into a few stores, mainly to use the air conditioning, lol, but they had a lot of nice things to purchase so we did a little bit of shopping. One store actually had birds in it that you could feed, which was exciting. The last thing we did was stop to watch a show of a few of their islanders performing one of their traditional dances where they also invited others to join in and/or take pictures with them.

Overall, I would say this was a great adventure for my friends and I, we were able to get a lot of laughs in all because sometimes we thought we could have been lost and we also enjoyed the food. I do wish the jeep didn't keep breaking down, it was very hot, and because of that, I would rate this adventure a 9/10, still highly recommend. Definitely has beautiful sights to see and lots of fun to be had, but if you are thinking about an island tour, try booking with Carnival cruise lines instead.
