Always fun to try something new, rarely repeat!
Once we were back in Miami, FL, which is where we ported for the cruise, we decided to stay in Miami, Fl., and we did a city tour and we tried different places to eat and just enjoyed the area.
There was this one particular Cuban restaurant that we decided to just randomly stop at which was called, Esquina De La Fama (in English: Corner of Fame). It was a nice little area in Little Havana which is a neighborhood in Miami consisting of art galleries (both indoor and street art), cigar stores, ice cream shops, and lots of Latin music, i.e., this was the Cuban Heart of Miami, Fl.
What really caught our attention about this restaurant was that the menu could be found on the outside of the building. So, prior to entering into the building, we were able to see if we were interested, and obviously, we were, lol. They have what looks like a buffet-styled line except you are served but, you could either pay a set price to eat at the buffet or special order a meal instead. We pretty much just wanted to try something, so we chose buffet, and we were able to try appetizers, entrees, and drinks which was all very nice.
The orders come with oven fried nacho chips and dip which was so amazing, everything was super fresh, and we enjoyed it. For our meal, I pretty much just picked up different things from the buffet, a few of which were recommended to us by the staff, and just tried some of everything (pictured above). The mild wings they had....... whew, they were absolutely delightful. They were so flavorful, juicy, and tender, and were cooked perfectly; served savory with a very small hint of sweetness. I also tried their Cuban rice and beans; they were also very good. I have come to love rice and beans, especially since it is such a traditional side dish in areas within South America, where I tend to travel a lot. I also tried a cabbage salad, which I must say was very interesting, I've never experienced a cabbage salad prior to, it wasn't bad, however, while I love trying foods, there are still some things I don't like, and raw onions is definitely in that list. The salad contained cabbage, onions, red and green bell peppers, assuming from the taste it was sauteed so that definitely helped the flavor of this fresh veggie mix, so if you enjoy these things, definitely add it to your list of things to try. The last thing we tried was the smoking mojito (alcoholic beverage), which we actually got just to try. They brought it out for another customer and my friends, and I were just curious as to what it was and server said that she highly recommends we try it, as it was a popular item. This drink contained mint leaves, lime, club soda, and white rum, while there are other ingredients, these were the main ones that helped to make this drink delicious; plus, it was a nice touch that the drink was smoking.
Overall, I would recommend this restaurant, 9/10, only because when we walked in, we didn't know whether to seat ourselves or wait to be seated and it was hard to get assistance for a while. But I would still say visit and try some of everything. Also, it is a Cuban neighborhood located in little Havana so their main language is Spanish, so I would recommend having someone with you who knows a little Spanish. They do have some people who speak English, or a little English, but I would still recommend having someone who speaks Spanish or can help in any way. But, other than that, definitely go try Esquina de la Fama.
