In my world, you can never go wrong with breakfast....
I mean, you can have breakfast for breakfast, lunch, and dinner it's such a versatile meal. Especially in todays' world where you can incorporate so many dinner items into a breakfast meal such as chicken and waffles, steak and eggs, breakfast tacos, etc. So, you just can't go wrong with breakfast items in my opinion, lol.
This particular restaurant focuses on American cuisine and is named "Hanz Diner" located in Houston, TX. It was one of those ducked off, almost kind of hidden places, that if you weren't from there, you probably wouldn't know about. Luckily, our driver told us about the place, and we decided we just had to try it because he would not stop talking about this particular place.
When you go into Hanz, they do have seating or you can order from the bar to go, which is very convenient for anyone who may not want to sit inside at their time of visit. If you choose to sit inside, the space is very open, and the tables aren't right up on the next person who may be seated in a nearby table. Also, during the time that we went, it was still in the mist of the coronavirus (I.e., COVID), but we still decided to eat in, luckily, everyone who was seated on the inside was on the same page.... spacing, which was perfect!!!
Once we were inside, we picked our seats and our waiter came over, full of energy, gave us our menus and took our drink orders. Now, granted, it kind of seemed like a laid back, quiet type of place at the time we went so to have an extremely happy, cheerful, and friendly waiter, who just came over with this burst of energy, was surprising for us, and not in a bad way. So, it's safe to say, the service at Hanz was amazing!
I ordered the original waffle combo which came with an original Belgian waffle, eggs (made your preferred way), and bacon/sausage, I also ordered a side of biscuits w/ white gravy.... just being greedy, lol. But the food was delicious, I actually really enjoyed my waffle, typically I go for the extremely soft and fluffy waffles, but this one was just a little bit crispier, and it was absolutely okay that it was. It was nice and crunchy along the edges and some places along the exterior of the top, but the inside was so nice, warm, and fluffy that it made for a nice tasting waffle. I did get the sausage patties instead of the bacon strips which were good as well, along with a side of scrambled eggs which I really enjoyed. And much like a lot of places nowadays, you get to add your own seasonings to your eggs on your own, which I really loved because who doesn't love to have the choice, right?! The last thing I had was an additional side of biscuits and gravy, full disclaimer, I was almost full by the time I got to try these, lol. The biscuits were very soft however, there was so much gravy that it made the bread very mushy, and I was not a fan. But, on the flipside, the gravy was very flavorful, and savory and I did enjoy it.
Overall, it was a nice place to visit, and of course our driver, as soon as we met back up with him asked how it was.... And honestly, besides the overwhelming amount of gravy you get on the biscuits, that I don't prefer, it was still great, 9/10, still highly recommend that everyone try it if you can.
