Cove Tavern

Hey, Heyy....

It's one thing to enjoy food but it's another to enjoy food and a scenery! Which is exactly what type of experience this particular restaurant will give you. This location is called Cove Tavern located in Newport News, VA where their specialty is American cuisine. The location of Cove Tavern is settled on this beautiful lake at City Center in Newport news where there are benches for you to sit and relax, a track to walk/run, directly in the middle of multiple businesses and just an overall scenic view. I could only imagine how the workers in the area feel, imagine taking a lunch break and knowing you have this view to go and sit by.

During the time we visited this location, it was fairly early, around brunch/lunch time, about 11am-12pm, so the place wasn't too busy, we were able to get seated right away. They do also have indoor/outdoor and bar seating, so that definitely helps with the possible waiting time depending on when you go and where you'd prefer to sit. During this visit, we had a group of 4 and decided to sit at a booth indoors, which was a nice idea because it was decorated beautifully and was just as refreshing as the outdoor seating.

Once we were seated, our waitress, who was super sweet and patient, came to take our drink orders. I ordered an ice-cold water, which was definitely helpful because it was fairly hot outside. I also ordered a Tiki Tavern, which is an alcoholic beverage.

We also tried one of their appetizers, the cornbread muffins (count of 6), which comes served with honey butter, (approx. $4). They were a great touch of southern cornbread; they were super soft and fresh and paired well with the butter.

Once it was time to order the entree, I decided to go with the smokehouse burger which is served with bacon, BBQ sauce, fried onions, and cheddar cheese and comes served with standard-cut fries. The fries can also be replaced with kettle chips, Cole slaw, sweet potato fries or salad.

I did end up ordering the burger without fried onions, and then also later took the bacon off. However, the burger was really good, it was nice and well-done, the BBQ sauce and cheddar cheese were perfect additions to making the burger exactly what it needed to be. I, personally, do not like bacon, but will typically try it for certain recipes.

They do have lots of other things such as quesadillas, grilled chicken, chicken and waffles, salmon, shrimp, steak, other types of burgers and so much more. They also have vegetarian options which include fried pickles, chips and dip, salads, black bean & couscous burger, grande burrito made with jasmine rice and black beans, and they also have sauteed vegetables. Their drinks also vary and can include, Pepsi products, juices (apple and cranberry), coffee, water, root beer, etc. They also have specialty alcoholic beverages that include apple pie martini, cove painkiller, Jamaican cowboy and pumpkin spiked latte. They also sell different wines and beers, so it's safe to say they have everyone covered.

Overall, the service was amazing, the food was amazing, the view was even better, and I highly recommend trying them, definitely 10/10.
